Update for Pastor Tom Higgins 06-24-17
Monday marks 5 weeks since Pastor Tom entered the hospital. Currently he is breathing well and his oxygen levels are good. The primary concern at present is nutrition. After several days of giving his meds by mouth it became clear his ability to swallow is weak putting Tom at risk for getting food or fluids in his lungs (the initial cause of his pneumonia). He has lost significant weight which contributes to his overall weakness. Late this past week a feeding tube was placed for him to receive nutrition and meds without risking his lungs. Hopefully this will help him regain strength for his continued recovery. Pastor Tom's faith and determination continue to sustain him. He asks about the churches in High Hill, Ferguson and Wright City and comments on how much the prayers of so many help him daily. When he is able he enjoys reading the cards being sent, though his weakened state means he still needs a lot of sleep. Tom and his medical team feel his recovery needs to be the focus of his energy and therefore continue to request visits in prayer rather than in person. May God's loving kindness continue to rest gently on Pastor Tom and all who long for his healing and wholeness. Godspeed, Pastor Dianna Niemann-Harris
